Sero Trout Farm
Our rainbow trout farm is situated near the lodge
and is fed by the cool, pure water of the Ngare Sero springs from
Mount Meru. The lake around the Lodge is stocked to provide great
fly fishing to Lodge clients.
Large-scale fisheries and environmental destruction
have driven the oceans beyond their sustainable threshold, therefore
we feel it is vital consumers support environmentally friendly and
efficient culture systems such as this one.
Ngare
Sero Private Lake
Explore the 50 acres of forest, lake and beautiful gardens which are home to a wide array of indigenous and exotic flora and fauna. Cold springs rise in the forest and feed a crystal clear lake containing barbel and trout.
Troops of Sykes monkeys and black and white Colobus monkeys are often seen in the forest.
This rich habitat is also home to a wide variety of birds.
Boating
Enjoy a tranquil cruise on our home built punt, which can seat six people and has a maximum capacity of ten people. Evenings are a good time for both fishing and bird watching. Take a bottle of wine to enjoy on the water. If you wish to go boating, please ask at the reception.
Trout Fishing
Try your hand at still water
fly fishing for specimen rainbow trout. Bring your own fly rod or
use one of ours. Take your catch to the kitchen where we will prepare
the fish to your liking. Our record catch is 3.6kg or 8lbs. We have
recently stocked many small trout. Please release any fish below
2lbs or 1kg
Trout Farm Tour
Down stream from the cold water Ngare Sero springs is our Rainbow Trout Farm where we organically culture trout to provide our guests with fresh fish and to stock the lake.
We generate our own electricity with a hydroelectric turbine to power most of the trout farm and lodge. Let us show you around this environmentally friendly method of aquaculture.
